SINGAPORE: The Singapore Discovery Centre is holding a special exhibition to commemorate Singapore's success in winning the bid to host the world's first Youth Olympic Games (YOG).
Singapore is home to 100 Olympic-sized pools and 972 sports halls, which are clustered near one another. This is one of the reasons why the country won the bid to host the YOG.
This and many other facts and figures are presented at the exhibition, called "Our Journey". Organisers say the exhibition is especially tailored for a young audience.
"They will probably be the ones who are participating in the 2010 Games and they will very much be involved in it. So through this exhibition, they can find out more about the Games and what and how they can contribute to the Games when it comes to Singapore in 2010," said Lim Chui Kiang, Singapore Discovery Centre's assistant manager (marketing communications).
Besides the YOG, organisers have also dedicated another segment - called "Going for Gold: Building Bonds Through Sports" - to the Olympic movement and the Beijing Olympic Games in August.
There are also interactive sports activities at the exhibition, including a modified basketball game to represent the paralympics.
To view the full exhibition, adults have to pay S$10 and children S$6. But some parts of the exhibits are open to the public for free.
The exhibition ends on 30 May. - CNA/ir
