New Contact Singapore launched to widen search for global talent

SINGAPORE: Singapore is strengthening its efforts to attract global talent to invest and live here. At the same time, it is looking at getting overseas Singaporeans to return home for work.

For this, Contact Singapore has been refreshed and turned into an alliance of the Economic Development Board (EDB) and Ministry of Manpower (MOM) - along with a new logo.

Singapore has a three-pronged strategy to ensure a sustainable population for development. This includes reaching out to overseas Singaporeans to help them stay connected, and attract and retain suitable global talent.

For this, it is important to have a coordinated effort from the private and public sectors.

Deputy Prime Minister Wong Kan Seng said: "The new Contact Singapore will be a one-stop centre for international talent attraction and retention.

"It will harness the capabilities and networks of both EDB and MOM to enhance Singapore's attractiveness as a talent destination, to make Singapore a choice location to work, invest, do business and live."

For those who do come here, Contact Singapore will ensure they are given support to integrate into the community.

The new Contact Singapore will be launching a series of programmes to reach out to global talent as well as overseas Singaporeans who may be keen to work in Singapore.

One of the programmes being planned is Careers@Home - where overseas Singaporeans will be given updates on employment opportunities back home and will get to meet employers.

The Overseas Singaporean Unit, under the Prime Minister's Office, will also help organise the outreach programmes. - CNA/ir
