SINGAPORE : Singapore, as Chair of ASEAN, has welcomed the confirmation of Mr Scot Marciel as the US Ambassador for ASEAN Affairs.
The confirmation was made by the US Senate on April 29.
The US is the first Dialogue Partner of ASEAN to appoint an ambassador to ASEAN.
In a statement, Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said this reflects the strength of the ASEAN-US relationship and the commitment of the US to continue its engagement with ASEAN.
The position of the US Ambassador for ASEAN Affairs was initiated in 2006 by US Senator Richard Lugar. - CNA /ls
