SINGAPORE: The opposition Singapore Democratic Party marked May Day by distributing flyers and getting Singaporeans to sign two petitions.

Party members and leader Dr Chee Soon Juan were in Toa Payoh on Thursday as part of their "Tak Boleh Tahan" or "Cannot Take It" campaign.

One of the petitions called on the government to do something about the rising costs of living - to help citizens cope better.

The other was on Jemaah Islamiyah detainee Mas Selamat Kastari's escape.

"Tak Boleh Tahan" buttons and t-shirts were also on sale. - CNA/ac
