SINGAPORE : ITE College West conducted its first collaborative effort with a well-known French culinary school known as Institut Paul Bocuse on Friday.

Participants prepared authentic French appetizers, the main course and desserts.

The dishes were the work of eight French students from the Institut Paul Bocuse, who teamed up with eight ITE graduating students, who are taking the Higher Nitec course in Culinary Skills.

ITE hopes that it can expose its students to more such exchange programmes, just like those made available to undergraduates. So ITE plans to send a group of students to France next year.

Cooking-related courses have been well received at this ITE. There were over 200 applications for the 36 places available last year.

Bruce Poh, CEO, Institute of Technical Education, said, "There is a great interest for students to do a course in culinary arts. There is also a big demand for chefs (in the industry), and with the integrated resorts opening up soon, plus with many hotels coming up, the demand for good chefs is always there, and those who graduate from this particular course will find a great career as chefs." - CNA/ms
