SINGAPORE: The Ministry of Health (MOH) said 1,465 cases of Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease (HFMD) were reported in the week ending 3 May.
The figure was 1 case lower than the 1,466 cases reported the week before.
MOH said the latest update brings the total number of cases so far this year to 10,490.
17 of them needed to be hospitalised because they were not eating well, but none was serious.
MOH added that there is still a high circulation of the EV71 virus. 26% of the samples were tested positive for the virus so far this year.
As of 5 May, 17 preschools and childcare centres have been ordered to close, while 48 others have been advised to consider voluntary closure.
MOH said closing a centre is vital in stopping the transmission of the virus. Closure also allows the premises to be thoroughly cleaned.
