SINGAPORE: South East Community Development Council (CDC) now has another 33 partners to work with in its efforts to help needy residents.
This brings the total number of organisations in its ComCare network to 66, since it was launched in December 2006.
This was revealed by Deputy Prime Minister S Jayakumar, who's also a Member of Parliament (MP) for East Coast GRC.
Speaking to some 500 participants at the South East District Meeting, he said working with more partners has allowed the CDC to improve its service delivery because it cuts duplication and identifies gaps.
Professor Jayakumar also announced a new initiative called ‘We Care, You See @ South East’ which will help 200 students from low income families.
The students will receive subsidised eye screenings and lens prescription from 14 optical shops in the South East district.
The project is a joint effort by the South East CDC, grassroots organisations, schools and corporate sponsors.
Professor Jayakumar said: "These corporate sponsors will also continue their involvement in the project beyond the one-year pilot phase. They have pledged to continue providing such services to the children under their care until they reach primary six. The CDC expects that over the years, several hundred needy children will benefit from these highly-subsidised eye care services." - CNA/vm
