SINGAPORE : The English Premier League title is in the bag, but Manchester United fans in Singapore are holding back on the big celebrations.

They want their team to win the double by clinching the Champions League when they take on Chelsea on May 21. And that's when they would literally go to town.

This season's EPL title was down to the wire - with the winner decided in the final round of matches.

Chelsea knew victory against Bolton was crucial, and the title was theirs if the Red Devils faltered against Wigan.

But it was disappointment for the Chelsea fans, who gathered at Alps Cafe to watch the final match. They were feeling the blues after Chelsea could only manage a 1-1 draw, ending in second spot for the second year running.

However, fans are now gunning for the Champions League title, where they will ironically take on the Red Devils.

Jonathan Lim, a Chelsea fan, said: "All along, Chelsea, our Cup games with Manchester United, we have done pretty well, so if you follow the track record, I think they will do well in Moscow."

Manchester United clinched their 17th English championship on Sunday by beating Wigan 2-0 in a nail-biting finale.

The 500 fans gathered at Crab Shack could not hold back their joy after the final whistle. They are now looking at more success in the Champions League.

Ryan Bauer, a Manchester United fan, said: "We know it is a really tough game even though their captain John Terry is a doubt, and they lost the title to us by two points right on the final day of the season. So I feel we have the psychological advantage and will push through."

Manchester United fans are looking at big celebrations should the team pull off the double this season. Plans include a victory parade in an open top double-decker bus to literally paint the town red. - CNA/de
