SINGAPORE: Four consortia – Civica, Hewlett-Packard, SingTel and ST Electronics – have been selected to design and deploy Singapore's next generation of infocomm-enabled solutions under the government's FutureSchools project.
Beacon Primary School, Canberra Primary School, Crescent Girls' School, Hwa Chong Institution and Jurong Secondary School have been chosen for this pilot programme which will be fully implemented by 2012.
For this project, the latest technology such as 4-D interactive solutions will be employed to redefine the way students are taught.
Eugenia Lim, Principal of Crescent Girls' School, said: "Students will have greater ownership of their learning. They will be able to plan and manage, and also monitor their own learning better. The teacher will become more of a facilitator of learning and (will) design how the students can learn."
In the future, lessons will be customised to each student's needs and teachers will be able to tailor classes and conduct them outside school.
The four-year FutureSchools project will cost its partners S$80 million. By working with the schools, companies can craft their technologies specifically for the education industry.
RADM(NS) Ronnie Tay, CEO of IDA Singapore, said: "That will build up the capabilities of the companies in the teaching arena and they can also export solutions to other markets overseas."
The government hopes to integrate ten more schools into the project by 2015.
