SINGAPORE: A local art gallery that specialises in Chinese art has decided to chip in to help earthquake victims in China.

Visitors to Linda Gallery are encouraged to dig deep into their pockets to help those affected in the China quake.

The gallery has put up a painting, worth S$30,000, for auction. The artwork is especially significant as it was done by an artist from Sichuan.

The artist, Xiao Ping, said: "The scenes of the affected children moved me to tears. I'm just doing my bit to help out."

The closed bidding will take place over four days from May 16 to 19.

Besides the auction, the gallery is also collecting funds from patrons in aid of quake victims.

Chantel Tian, manager of Linda Gallery, said: "We have set up collection points for people to donate any amount of money they want."

This donation effort comes just a day after local art gallery, Jasmine Fine Arts, said it would donate 5 percent of the proceeds from its "Road to Beijing" exhibition to the Singapore Red Cross to help the quake victims in Sichuan.
