SINGAPORE: OCBC Bank will donate RMB 1 million to rebuild schools and homes in the earthquake-hit Sichuan province in China.

OCBC said the donation would be channelled through appropriate organisations which are involved in the rebuilding efforts.

The bank has also made its banking channels, which include ATMs, internet banking and Quick Cheque Deposit boxes, available to customers who want to make donations to support the earthquake victims.

All such donations will be channelled through the Singapore Red Cross Society.

Keppel Group, on the other hand, has donated US$1 million to Sichuan quake relief efforts and the funds will be channelled to the Red Cross Society of China.

It added that apart from the corporate donation, Keppel's employees from across the group – in Singapore and overseas – are also giving to the cause and initiatives are ongoing to raise funds amongst its customers.

In China, donation boxes have been placed in Keppel Land's offices and residential properties in Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu and Wuxi.

Over in Kunming, Keppel Land's Spring City Golf and Lake Resort has raised over RMB 250,000 through a charity golf game.

Another organisation that is contributing to the quake relief efforts is mainboard-listed AsiaPharm Group.

The company and its staff have given medical supplies and donations worth a total of RMB 1.84 million to the Red Cross Society of China to aid emergency relief efforts in Sichuan.

AsiaPharm said its pledge to the Red Cross Society includes drugs - such as Sailimai, used in the treatment of acute diarrhoea; and Olai, an anti-inflammatory drug with pain-relief properties - with a market value of RMB 1.02 million.

The group, along with its subsidiaries and staff, has also made donations of approximately RMB 817,000 to support relief activities in the affected areas.
