SINGAPORE : At least 200 children are coming together to put up a special concert to raise funds for the Sichuan quake victims.

The event - titled "Kids performing for Hope" - is supported by MediaCorp Publishing and will take place at Singapore's DBS Arts Centre on Wednesday.

Children aged between 5 and 16 will be performing to various genres of music.

"I learnt how to groove and dance to new moves, and how to sing and dance, so it's pretty cool," said 9-year-old Robin Buxton, who is Master-of-Ceremony for the event.

"I find it very fun because there are no parents and all the girls can hang out together," said Tiffany Park, a 10-year-old jazz dancer.

The children come from Singapore and other parts of Asia.

"We want to go regional, attract children from China, Indonesia, Malaysia and everywhere from around the region to attend this summer camp, and work together with our Singaporean kids," explained Kuo Po, Artistic Director of the Kids Performing Company.

The concert is the highlight of a three-day training camp, and the children hope to sing their way to raise US$10,000 (S$18,000). Organisers believe it is a realistic target and 90 percent of the tickets have been sold.

Organisers have also secured sponsors, who have underwritten most of the production costs.

The money raised will be channelled to Mercy Relief.

Members of the public who are keen to catch the show can purchase the tickets at
SISTIC outlets. - CNA /ls
