SINGAPORE: Defence Minister Teo Chee Hean said 'active citizenship' must become an integral part of Singaporeans' lives in order to build a harmonious and vibrant community.

This means every citizen has a stake in making Singapore the best home.

Mr Teo, who is also an MP for Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC was speaking at a ceremony on Saturday to present the Singapore citizenship to 284 residents in the constituency.

He added that being a new Singapore citizen carried with it responsibilities to the community and country.

As Singaporeans, he said everyone must do their part to bring progress and prosperity to the nation and advance the well-being of the people.

Mr Teo told the new citizens that by choosing to take up Singapore citizenship, they have demonstrated their enthusiasm and commitment in taking up the worthwhile task of nation building.
