SINGAPORE: MediaCorp's Channel NewsAsia has won the Asiavision Award for the second year in a row.
The award recognises the channel's contributions to the ASEAN Television News Exchange – a weekly programme that sees news shared among the ten national broadcasters of Southeast Asia.
Channel NewsAsia submits some 50 stories a year to the Asean Television News exchange.
The Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union, which sponsored the award, said materials by Channel NewsAsia are current and well-produced.
It lauded the channel's story crafting abilities and wide-range of topics offered - including education, social and technology issues.
Han Chuan Quee, Vice President, Corporate Services, News, MediaCorp, said: "As a broadcaster we're really honoured to be recognised by our peers through this awards and we've done TV news exchange for more than 15 years now. And it's a natural extension for Channel NewsAsia to contribute to the pool of stories that reflect a slice of life in ASEAN."
Channel NewsAsia also said mutual benefit is a key reason for participating in such exchanges, as Asian broadcasters can pool their news gathering resources to present stories from the region to the world.
Established in 1999, the Singapore-headquartered station began an international channel in 2000 and reaches over 22 territories across the region.
The Asiavision award was launched in 2003.
