ASEAN setting up Committee of Permanent Representatives

SINGAPORE: The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is setting up a Committee of Permanent Representatives or CPR. It will be established on January 1 next year.

Singapore's Foreign Minister George Yeo announced this at the final meeting of the 41st ASEAN Standing Committee.

The CPR will take over much of regional level cooordination that is under the purview of the ASEAN Standing Committee.

Mr Yeo emphasized that he needs the CPR and ASEAN directors general to continue working closely together.

The Standing Committee carries out the work of ASEAN in between the ministerial meetings.
