SINGAPORE : Crooners, stunt performers and daredevil magicians - they are just some of the 20 acts hoping to perform at Supperclub, a restaurant, bar concept space started in Amsterdam, with branches worldwide.
The club, known for having unconventional performers teasing and interacting with dine-in guests, is opening an outlet in Singapore soon.
It has engaged The Substation, a centre for alternative arts, to hold auditions and plan the club's nightly performances.
Said Julie Eaglefield, General Manager of The Substation: "It could be anything from acrobatics, rap, to musicians, singers and dancers. What we're looking for in these auditions are some very unusual people, people who are ready to do things that are somewhat different from what you normally see in Singapore.
"So you would not see at the Supperclub something you would see at another theatre, restaurant or bar. You would expect to see something extraordinary, and in some ways, be shocked and astounded by what you're seeing."
The Substation-Supperclub collaboration will allow independent artists to access a more mainstream market. Depending on their experience, the artists can be paid up to S$1,000 per gig.
The Supperclub opens in Singapore in August. Auditions to perform at the club have closed, but the Substation said they are still on the lookout for talents. - CNA /ls
