SINGAPORE: Local retailer Tang Wee Sung - who allegedly agreed to buy a kidney illegally - appeared in court on Monday, only to have his case adjourned to August 1.
His lawyer met the judge in chambers on Monday for a pre-trial conference. The pre-trial conference is to ascertain if a case is ready for a hearing.
Tang faces three charges of allegedly agreeing to buy a kidney from an Indonesian man for S$300,000.
Two other men have also been charged with abetting the intended organ sale. They will also have a pre-trial conference on August 1.
One of them is Wang Chin Sing, a 'medical concierge' who allegedly introduced Tang to the organ seller. The other accused is Whang Sung Lin, Tang's relative, who allegedly introduced Tang to Wang.
Wang's lawyer, Shashi Nathan, plans to meet officials from the Attorney-General's Chambers and the Ministry of Health by the end of this week.
The lawyer wants to discuss and clarify the charges faced by his client.
