Foreign Minister Yeo meets China, Australian counterparts

SINGAPORE: Singapore's Foreign Minister George Yeo has exchanged views with his counterparts from China and Australia on the recent developments in ASEAN.

They met at the Shangri-La Hotel on the sidelines of the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Tuesday.

During the meeting with China's Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, both leaders reaffirmed the strong ties between the two countries.

They also discussed international challenges like issues of security, rising oil prices and their impact on the region. The two leaders also spoke about the political situation in Northeast Asia.

During the meeting with Australian Foreign Minister Stephen Smith, Mr Yeo also reaffirmed the strength of bilateral relations.

The two ministers discussed the framework for regional cooperation and agreed to work together to further strengthen cooperation.

The Chinese and Australian foreign ministers are in Singapore to attend meetings that are held in conjunction with the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting from Tuesday to Thursday.
