SINGAPORE: A sight and sound feast awaits visitors to this year's Republic of Singapore Air Force Open House - with freefall jumpers and free rides on an F-15 simulator.

The Ministry of Defence said the theme of this year's Open House is "The 3rd Generation RSAF", and it will be held at Paya Lebar Air Base on August 30 and 31.

An exhibition will follow the air force's beginnings in the 1960s to the full spectrum of the integrated force today.

The Open House also comes on the heels of the completed restructuring of the RSAF.

The reorganisation of the RSAF started in January last year, and it now has five commands divided into functional areas.

They are the Air Defence and Operations, Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, Participation Commands, Air Combat and Air Power Generation Commands.

The Defence Ministry said the new structure enables the RSAF to become more operationally effective, and to integrate better with the army and navy. - CNA/de
