SINGAPORE: A hawker representative of the Marsiling Hawker Centre faces four charges of lying to the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) about a National Environment Agency (NEA) officer.

A CPIB statement said 56-year-old Ho Cheng Lay had given false information relating to NEA's Hawker Department Manager, Lim Peng Siang, on four separate occasions.

The incidents happened between August last year and February this year.

Ho had allegedly told a CPIB investigator that when the hawker centre was about to buy hats and aprons, Mr Lim had offered to get these items for free from beer company, Carlsberg.

Ho also claimed that Lim had told him not to let NEA know about the free items. Investigations later revealed that Ho had lied.

If convicted, Ho could be fined up to S$10,000 and jailed for up to a year. - CNA/vm
