SINGAPORE: The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded three contracts to upgrade closed-circuit TV cameras at MRT stations islandwide.

A S$11.6 million contract was awarded to Thales Security Asia to supply and install CCTV cameras at the stations along the East-West and North-South lines.

A second contract, worth S$11.9 million, was awarded to O'Connor's Singapore. This is for the upgrading of the existing back-end systems for the cameras at the stations.

Works for these two contracts will start next month and are expected to be completed in mid-2011, said an LTA statement on Thursday.

A third contract, worth about S$5.5 million, was awarded to Advantech Peripherals (Singapore). The company will install cameras and back-end systems at the North-East Line stations.

Advantech Peripherals (Singapore) will also start work in September, but is expected to complete the installation in mid-2010.

"These enhancements are part of the measures highlighted in the Land Transport Master Plan to improve security in and around the MRT stations," said the LTA statement.
