SINGAPORE : One of England's most famous players, Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish, is in Singapore to open a new football facility at Turf City and share tips with local footballers.
It was a rare honour for the Young Lions and the National Football Academy to have Dalglish join them at the field, and the 57-year-old footballer showed he still had his Anfield winning moves.
The Scotsman had donned Liverpool colours from 1977-1990 and was manager for six years till 1991.
On the current Liverpool team, which has yet to win the English Premier League title in 18 years, Dalglish feels they stand a better chance this season, with good attacking options upfront - like Fernando Torres and Robby Keane.
"I think they have got to go better in the head-to-head with the big teams. If they sort that out, they would have been much closer. As Rafa (Benitez) said at the end of last season, after two results against Manchester United had been reversed and they won both, they would have won the League," said Dalgish, former Liverpool player and coach.
While in Singapore, he officially opened Singapore's largest indoor football field "The Premier Pitch". Dalglish feels that such facilities are important for Singapore, if it wants to improve its footballing standards.
This is Dalglish's first trip to Singapore, and he is here for a week. But he already has plans to make a second visit.
More such football legends are also expected to be headed this way over the next few months. - CNA /ls
