SINGAPORE: The Who's Who of the Indian business community in Singapore came together to celebrate a new programme on Channel NewsAsia.
'Shubh Labh India' is a nine-month-long series on the investment opportunities available in the subcontinent.
Many people associate India with steel, the IT sector and tea, but it is also bursting with potential for investment across the country.
Mr Girija Pande, chairman of the Indian Business Forum, Confederation of Indian Industry, said: "The Indian environment has been growing very strongly in the last three to four years. We have seen a 9 percent growth rate."
The 40-episode 'Shubh Labh India' - which translates to Profitable Business in India - aims to demonstrate that there are more than just the widely-known industries such as steel.
Dr S Jainshankar, Indian High Commissioner to Singapore, said: "Singapore has always been well-positioned to explain what's happening in India to the audience east of Singapore. So I think there can really be no more appropriate medium than your television channel to undertake such a programme."
The show will run till March next year. 'Shubh Labh India' showcases the very best that India has to offer to would-be investors.
For instance, mention animation and we often think of Japan. But India too has jumped on the bandwagon and developed its own style of animation.
Mr Woon Tai Ho, managaing director of News at MediaCorp, said: "We want the programme to be relevant and useful to people who want to do business in India. More importantly, we want to interest viewers on the potential to do business in India."
Aside from those interested in starting a business in India, 'Shubh Labh India' is also ideal for those who have already started.
The show airs on Tuesdays at 7.30pm on Channel NewsAsia Singapore and on Mondays at 9.30pm on Channel NewsAsia in the region. - CNA/de
