SINGAPORE : Singapore's supermarket giant NTUC FairPrice has donated S$3.5 million to the labour movement to help low-wage workers cope with the rising cost of living.
The money comes from the FairPrice Foundation - its philanthropic arm.
The Foundation was launched in March 2008, with a pledge of S$50 million over the next 10 years. Since the launch, FairPrice has contributed S$11.5 million to the Foundation.
FairPrice's new logo was also launched on Friday. Unveiling the new look at the Toa Payoh outlet was Singapore Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew.
It was a walk down memory lane for Mr Lee, who was at the very same site 35 years ago, launching the first supermarket by the labour movement. Then, it was called NTUC Welcome.
The new FairPrice logo is framed by the recently-launched NTUC hallmark "U". - CNA/ms
