DPM Wong to visit Tianjin and Beijing

SINGAPORE: Deputy Prime Minister Wong Kan Seng will be making an official visit to China from September 2-6 at the invitation of Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan.

According to a joint statement from the Singapore Foreign Affairs, Trade and Industry, and National Development Ministries, Mr Wong will visit Tianjin from September 3-4.

In Tianjin, he will co-chair several joint project meetings with Mr Wang.

These are the inaugural Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City Joint Steering Council, the 10th Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP) Joint Steering Council (JSC) and the 5th Joint Council for Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC) meetings.

Mr Wong will also meet Tianjin Party Secretary Zhang Gaoli, Tianjin Mayor Huang Xingguo and other municipal leaders as well as receive briefings on the Eco-City and the Tianjin Binhai New Area.

From September 4-5, Mr Wong will visit Beijing, where he is scheduled to meet Premier Wen Jiabao, and State Councillor and Minister of Public Security Meng Jianzhu.

He will be accompanied by Minister for National Development Mah Bow Tan, Minister for Trade and Industry Lim Hng Kiang, Minister (Prime Minister's Office) Lim Swee Say, Minister for Health Khaw Boon Wan, Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Balaji Sadasivan, Senior Minister of State for National Development and Education Grace Fu, Minister of State for Trade and Industry Lee Yi Shyan and senior officials. - CNA/de
