11 new members appointed to National Arts Council

SINGAPORE : Information, Communications and the Arts Minister Lee Boon Yang has appointed 11 new members to the National Arts Council (NAC) for a two-year term from 1 September 2008 to 31 August 2010.

Among them are visual artist Ong Kim Seng, music composer Iskandar Mirza Ismail and MediaCorp's managing director of News, Woon Tai Ho.

The others are Dr Chua Chee Lay, chief executive, CL Lab Pte Ltd; Guy Harvey-Samuel, chief executive officer, Singapore, Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited; Isa Kamari, a writer; Kok Lee Kwang, deputy director, Humanities & Aesthetics, Ministry of Education; Melissa Kwee, chairwoman, Halogen Foundation (Singapore); Ow Chio Kiat, executive chairman, Stamford Land Corporation Ltd; Venka Purushothaman, provost and chief academic officer, LaSalle College of the Arts; and Nirmala Seshadri, a dancer, choreographer and writer.

MICA said council members are drawn from a cross-section of leading and prominent figures from the public and private sectors, as well as the arts community.

The 21-member council guides the work of NAC and helps shape arts policy and strategies to develop and promote the arts in Singapore. - CNA/ms
