SINGAPORE: Four leading design cities are on the itinerary of Rear-Admiral Lui Tuck Yew, Senior Minister of State for Education, as well as Information, Communication and the Arts.

He is visiting these key centres from Saturday till September 13 to establish connections with key players in global design and open up collaboration opportunities.

His visit starts in Turin, an Italian city nominated as the first World Design Capital.

Next will be Milan, where he will visit key tertiary institutions to get ideas on how to gear policy for higher education in design.

He will then attend the 11th Venice Biennale, where he will grace the opening of the Singapore Pavilion, a showcase of Singapore's emerging design culture.

Rear-Admiral Lui will conclude his visit in London, where he will attend the events under its Design Festival.

He is accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts and the DesignSingapore Council.

Exposure to the London Design Festival will help the delegation in its planning for Singapore's own Design Festival and the World Design Congresses for the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design and International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers next year. - CNA/vm
