SINGAPORE: Multi-ethnic dance teams from Singapore, Malaysia, India and Australia competed for the region's top bhangra team honours on Saturday.

Organisers said the competition is a platform to showcase the talent and diversity of the region's multi-racial teams.

Bhangra originated in India's Punjab region and is traditionally performed by farmers to celebrate the coming of spring.

Today the folk dance survives in different forms and styles, and even uses pop music!

Taking home the top prize in the competition was the team from India. The second and third spots went to Singapore teams.
