Australians bag top prizes in Aviva Ironman

SINGAPORE: One of Asia's biggest endurance races kicked off at Singapore's East Coast Park early Sunday.

Over 1,500 athletes from around the world took part in the Aviva Ironman 70.3 Singapore Triathlon.

The total prize purse for this test of perseverance and stamina was US$50,000.

Triathletes had to swim 1.9 kilometres (km), cycle 90.1 km and run 21.1 km.

Bagging the top prize in the men's category was Australia's Simon Thompson, with a time of 3:55:40. His compatriot Rebekah Keat won the women's race in a time of 4:25:43.
