SINGAPORE: The Duke of York will be in Singapore for a three-day visit from September 10 to 12.
This is Prince Andrew's fourth visit to Singapore in his role as the United Kingdom's Special Representative for International Trade and Investment.
The British High Commission in Singapore said the principal objective of Prince Andrew's visit is to build on the excellent economic and political relations that exist between the UK and Singapore.
During this week's visit, as in previous ones, the Prince will also call on President SR Nathan.
In the British High Commissioner media release, the Prince was quoted to have said: "It is always a pleasure to return to Singapore. It's just over a year since I was last here and I am looking forward to exploring the prospect for even greater and stronger business links between our two countries.
"We have a very special business relationship with Singapore and there's tremendous energy and determination on both sides."
The British High Commissioner, Paul Madden, said when Prince Andrew was here in 2007, he met a number of Singaporean companies who are operating in Britain. He was so impressed to hear about their activities that he subsequently visited SembCorp's power plant in the North East of England and Comfort DelGro's bus terminal in London.
While in Singapore, Prince Andrew will visit three new facilities opened earlier this year by British companies in Singapore - Rolls-Royce, GSK and Swire. These facilities reflect the high levels of investment that the UK continues to make in Singapore.
For the fourth year running, the UK is the largest foreign direct investor in Singapore, with cumulative investments of over S$54 billion in 2006.
Prince Andrew will also visit PSA, which last year made major investments in the UK.
Finally, the Duke of York will speak at a reception to mark the 25th anniversary of The British Club in Singapore. Around 200 people from across the 22,000 strong British community in Singapore are expected to attend the event. - CNA/vm
