SINGAPORE: For a full year from October, SingPost will send out specially-made cards to children affected by the Sichuan earthquake in May.

The "Envelopes of Love" project is the brainchild of Singaporean Carol Chong, who is studying at Beijing Normal University. The project is now spearheaded by tertiary students in Singapore.

The local student community hopes to provide emotional support for the children affected by the Sichuan earthquake through words of encouragement and colourful pictures on the cards.

SingPost’s executive vice president for Mail Business, Mr Woo Keng Leong, said, "Envelopes of Love is a very meaningful project as it is driven voluntarily by a group of local tertiary students who want to do their bit for the affected children in Sichuan.

"SingPost is glad to support these students with big hearts to spread love and cheer to the young victims in China."

SingPost sent out its first batch of 3,000 cards on Monday. The cards were made by students and even children at childcare centres in Singapore.

The project hopes to collect 12,000 cards so that some 1,000 children in Sichuan can receive a card every month for a year.
