SINGAPORE: Three people will be "teleported" across the Singapore River as part of the Singapore River festival.

The teleport chamber is made of three kinds of metal, wood, plastic and fibre glass.

But the rest is up to illusionists JC Sum and Magic Babe Ning.

On Monday, three people were picked from the crowd at Central Mall to join the magic act.

One of them was Nanyang Technological University student, Gerard Lim.

He said: "Because I am a science student, magic and science they don’t really coincide. They kind of contradict in terms of concepts so I think I will be the harshest critic of the three teleportees to be teleported across the Singapore River."

The event is supported by the Singapore Tourism Board and has been touted as Southeast Asia's biggest magic event.

J C Sum and Magic babe Ning can teleport a person across 250 metres in 2.5 seconds. This is done by stepping onto a red launch pad and then into the teleportation chamber.

Mega-illusionist, J C Sum, said: “Last year, I did one where I teleported 50 storeys in five seconds but this is the first time that we are doing it over a body of water as well as with a layman.”

All this action will take place at the Central Promenade at 7:30pm on Wednesday night. - CNA/vm
