Foreign Minister George Yeo meets Utah governor in Salt Lake City

SINGAPORE: Singapore's Foreign Affairs Minister George Yeo is in the United States and visited Salt Lake City, Utah, on October 7.

According to a statement from Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he was hosted to dinner by Utah Governor Jon Huntsman.

Both men discussed many issues of mutual concern, including the global financial crisis and the US elections.

Mr Yeo also met with the First Presidency of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-day Saints (LDS) - Presidents Thomas Monson, Henry Eyring and Dieter Uchtdorf.

They discussed the LDS' global humanitarian work and the main challenges it faces.

Mr Yeo was also hosted to lunch by Elder Dallin Oaks of the LDS' Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.

Elder Oaks and his colleagues briefed Mr Yeo on the history of the LDS and its missionary work overseas.

Mr Yeo also toured the LDS Humanitarian Center and the Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City. - CNA/vm
