SINGAPORE: Indonesian contemporary art is seeing a boost in interest, especially at exhibitions and auctions.

For the first time, art lovers in Singapore have the chance to experience the works of an up-and-coming Indonesian contemporary artist, Widodo.

It is clear that Widodo has a wide vocabulary of artistic expression from his first solo exhibition in Singapore.

These can be seen through the various texts on his paintings at the exhibition titled "Social Manifest".

Widodo says his inspiration comes from whatever happens around him, politically or socially.

For example, his signature piece "Soto is My Life" is a reflection of one's life.

Widodo says that a bowl of stew (soto) is somewhat similar to life, where one has to chew, taste and swallow, however difficult.

The exhibition is at Studio 83 in the River Valley Road area, till October 26.
