BEIJING: Minister for Defence Teo Chee Hean, who is on an official visit to China, called on State Councillor, Minister of National Defence and Member of the Central Military Commission, General Liang Guanglie.

Mindef said both ministers exchanged views on the regional security situation and the development of a regional security architecture.

They also agreed to enhance exchanges between the Singapore Armed Forces and the People's Liberation Army, and work together for regional peace and stability.

Mr Teo also met Vice Premier Li Keqiang and will be meeting with other provincial officials and PLA commanders during his visit from October 12 to 16.

Mindef said Mr Teo's visit underscored the progress in the defence relationship between Singapore and China since the signing of the bilateral Agreement on Defence Exchanges and Security Cooperation, and the inaugural Permanent Secretary-level Defence Policy Dialogue in January this year. - CNA/de
