SINGAPORE: With tough times ahead, school bus operator Andy Sham is glad the government is footing the bill for new seat belts.
Sham's company, which services Avondale Grammar School, started installing the three-point seat belt in their school buses two months ago after concerned parents raised the issue.
"As a bus operator, this is our service to ensure that when parents send their children to the bus, they are being cared for," said Sham.
Even the little ones welcome the move.
"Once, when I was on the school bus, there was an accident, but nobody was hurt because everyone was wearing their seat belts," six-year-old Maliha Singh said.
"It is safer as well, it feels much better," another pupil added.
For parents, money is not an issue where safety is concerned. Ultimately, it is a small price to pay for peace of mind.
"I am giving the responsibility to another person to ensure that my child's safety is being well-kept... I would prefer that to be safe," one parent said.
