SINGAPORE : Criminal Investigation Department officers have busted a syndicate on which was operating an illegal gambling den at a funeral wake in Jurong West on Thursday.

According to a police statement, seven men and six women, aged between 27 and 57 years old were arrested.

They also seized gambling paraphernalia including two makeshift tables, coloured gaming chips, English poker cards, dice, documents and cash of more than S$2,700 during the five-hour operation.

Initial investigations showed that the gamblers had been playing the game called "Si Ki Pi" at the wake using English poker cards.

They will be charged in court on November 3.

If convicted, they could each be fined up to S$5,000 or jailed up to six months or both. - CNA /ls
