SINGAPORE : The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) has sent a 20-man medical team to Afghanistan, its second deployment to the country this year.

The team, consisting of medical and nursing officers, will be deployed in the field hospital in Tarin Kowt, the capital of Oruzgan, for three months.

A second team will replace them in February and serve in the same hospital for another three months till May.

The teams will support existing Australian and Dutch forces at the field hospital by providing primary health care, among other things.

The deployment of the two teams is part of Singapore's contribution to the multi-national reconstruction efforts in the country. - CNA /ls
