PM Lee to attend APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in Lima, Peru

SINGAPORE : Singapore's Prime Minister, Lee Hsien Loong, will be in Lima, Peru on Saturday for the annual Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders' Meeting.

During the two-day visit, Mr Lee will also meet other APEC leaders, including Peruvian President Alan Garcia.

He will be accompanied by Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo, and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Trade and Industry.

After the APEC summit, Mr Lee will make bilateral visits to Brazil and Chile where he will meet President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in Brasilia and President Michelle Bachelet in Santiago.

A business delegation will accompany Mr Lee throughout his visit to Latin America.

Singapore's Foreign Ministry said Mr Lee's trip underscores the important relations between Singapore and the three Latin American countries.

It also reflects Singapore's interest in deepening and broadening the scope of interactions with Latin America to include areas like education, science and technology.

During Mr Lee's absence, Deputy Prime Minister S Jayakumar will be the Acting Prime Minister from November 20-28.

Deputy Prime Minister Wong Kan Seng will be the Acting Prime Minister on November 29. - CNA /ls
