SINGAPORE: Donations in kind to the Salvation Army are picking up this festive season.

The charity said donations have more than doubled and it is looking for more help to cope with the increased load.

It used to collect an average of about 10 tonnes of donations a day, but the amount has now gone up to more than 20 tonnes a day.

The organisation said 10 more people are needed to help sort out the extra load, in addition to its 14 staff. The number of trips needed to transport donations from eight collection centres is also likely to increase from eight to 20 trips a day.

However, along with the hike in donations, the charity has received more unwanted trash than before. It has to spend at least S$4,000 to get rid of the junk.
