UNESCO chief calls on the PM Lee, SM Goh

SINGAPORE: The Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) Koichiro Matsuura called on Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on Thursday.

During the visit, Mr Lee commended Mr Matsuura on UNESCO's progress and expressed Singapore's support for the organisation.

Mr Matsuura expressed his appreciation for Singapore's decision to rejoin UNESCO last year.

He also briefed Mr Lee on the organisation's work and priorities, particularly in the field of education.

Mr Matsuura also called on Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong.

He briefed Mr Goh on UNESCO's role in introducing best practices in education to developing countries.

Mr Goh offered to share Singapore's experience with other developing countries.
