SINGAPORE: A man has been jailed for two weeks and fined S$500 for tampering with his vehicle fuel gauge.

39-year-old Andreas did not have the minimum three-quarter tank of petrol in his car, but he lied to the immigrations officer at Woodlands Checkpoint not once, but thrice, that his fuel tank was full.

Andreas was found to have tampered with the fuel gauge with a remote control. He is the fourth person to be convicted of the offence this year.

Under the law, Singapore-registered cars must have at least three-quarter tank of petrol when leaving Singapore.

Those caught breaching the three-quarter tank rule can be fined up to S$500 and since 2006, more than 7,370 motorists had been fined.
