JAKARTA: Singapore took on Myanmar in their Group A tie of the ASEAN Football Federation Cup competition in Jakarta on Sunday evening.

After defeating Cambodia 5-0 in their opening match on Friday, the Lions had to fight hard for a 3-1 win – putting them through to the semi-finals.

The game, unfortunately, turned ugly in the second half when Myanmar players walked out in protest at the referee's decision.

Myanmar was supposed to offer stiff resistance, but Singapore took the lead in the first minute with a Noh Alam Shah goal.

And even before the Myanmar team could settle down, Singapore's Agu Casmir, made it 2-nil for the Lions in the 15th minute.

Twenty seven minutes on, Myanmar's Myo Min Tun took advantage of slack defending to pull one back.

After the break, the Myanmar team came out more determined and gave Singapore a few scary moments, but could not add to their tally.

In the 73rd minute, Singapore took a quick free kick which resulted in Casmir scoring Singapore's third goal.

But Myanmar's goal-keeper Aung Aung Oo – upset with the early free kick decision – pushed the referee and got a red card. The Myanmar players then decided to walk out in protest.

It was a case of history repeating itself as Myanmar had also walked out in a semi-final match against Singapore in the same tournament in 2004.

The Myanmar team returned to the field after 5 minutes to resume the match with 10 players. The game ended 3-1 in favour of Singapore.

Singapore will be up against Indonesia next in their last group match on Tuesday.
