SINGAPORE: Children are not the only ones getting toys this festive season. Adults are also indulging in trinkets of their own, with some putting the "X" in Christmas.

Retailers said sales of adult toys have never been better even with the economic crunch.

Michelle Heinesen, manager, Oohtique, said: "A lot of couples plan little dirty weekends during the holiday season. So holiday-oriented lingerie like little Santarina costumes, or a piece of lingerie that makes you look like a present that's wrapped up, are really popular."

The store has seen sales double since it opened three years ago.

Its customers are an equal mix of Singaporeans and expatriates, mainly professionals working in the central business district. But older couples also patronise the outlet.

Heinesen added: "A lot of moms and typical aunties come to the shop. There's something that comes with age, that you become very comfortable with your sexuality. And there's a certain quiet confidence that you don't have to show on the outside."

The company said whether they're naughty or nice, most of their customers have been quite generous in spending their money on adult toys. Some of them even fork out up to S$1,000 per trip on lingerie and other novelty items. - CNA/vm
