SINGAPORE: Police have arrested a 51-year-old Chinese man believed to be involved in at least ten cases of armed robbery at convenience stores.

Since November 2008, several cases of convenience store robbery happened in the Jalan Besar, Kallang and Geylang areas.

Officers from the Central Police Division and Bedok Police Division coordinated their efforts in conducting intensive enquiries and investigation in an attempt to nab the criminal.

Ambushes were also conducted at various locations as part of the coordinated efforts.

On January 1 at about 5.15am, police were alerted to an armed robbery at a convenience store along French Road.

The officers, who were lying in wait, immediately gave chase and managed to detain the suspect at the underpass of Lavender MRT station.

The suspect will be charged on Friday with armed robbery, which carries a maximum sentence of 14 years imprisonment and caning of not less than 12 strokes.
