SINGAPORE: Two Singaporeans who were in the vicinity of the Santika Pub when the fire broke out just after midnight on New Year's day remain unaccounted for.

Singapore's Foreign Ministry and its Embassy in Bangkok have been in close contact with their next-of-kin.

In a statement, it added its Embassy in Bangkok is working closely with the local authorities to determine their status; and also if there are any other Singaporeans affected.

One Singaporean man was among the 60 people killed in the fire.

Two other Singaporeans suffered minor injuries.

Local media reports put the total number of injured at about 200.

Police say the fire may have been caused by firecrackers or pyrotechnics or an electrical fault but have ruled out arson.
