SINGAPORE: It has been three weeks since China-made milk products were allowed back onto shop shelves, but some retailers have cut their stock of these products.

While it may be business as usual at Super Minimart at Serangoon North Avenue 3, store manager Linda Leong said she has reduced her stock of China-made dairy products as consumers are still wary.

She said: "Customers have a phobia about all this. It might take them about one or two years to forget about the issue. If not, they don't dare to buy any China-related products."

Since the ban has been lifted, requests for China-made products still remain low.

Although consumers said these products are cheaper, they are more concerned about their health and safety than they are about saving a few cents.

Meanwhile, retailers said sales of other Chinese products are also affected.

Ms Leong added: "Some customers see 'fruits made from China' and they get scared. They don't want to buy."

According to the Agri-food and Veterinary Authority, no new milk or milk products from China have been brought into Singapore since December 18. - CNA/vm
