SINGAPORE: Police have arrested a 26-year-old man believed to be behind a spate of car break-ins in Sengkang this year.

Between January 3 and 12, the suspect allegedly broke into 40 cars and made off with the cashcards in the in-vehicle units.

Police officers eventually tracked him down at a rented unit in Sengkang. A stakeout was mounted and the suspect was apprehended on Tuesday.

Among the items recovered were S$1,889 in cash, 18 cashcards and an assortment of drug paraphernalia.

The man, who is being investigated for drug abuse, will be charged on Wednesday with theft.
