SINGAPORE : The world's largest observation wheel, the Singapore Flyer, will resume operations on Monday - the first day of the Lunar New Year.

Singapore police gave the authorisation after it received the final safety certification report on the Flyer from the Conformity Assessment Board (CAB) at about 7pm on Sunday.

It added the independent assessment board had rigorously tested and certified safe the flyer's main system and the secondary independent backup system.

Eleven people had to be manually lowered from the flyer when it broke down on December 23.

All in, 173 visitors were stuck, most of them for over six hours.

The flyer had remained shut since the incident.

It installed new back-up systems on January 22. - CNA /ls
