SINGAPORE: Singapore's health authorities said that a baby powder taken off the shelves in China for suspected asbestos contamination is not imported into the island state.
Wire reports said sales of the NUK brand of powder manufactured by German company MAPA had been suspended in China.
According to China's quarantine agency website, South Korean authorities also reportedly tested 30 brands of baby powder and found 12 containing the carcinogen, asbestos, including the NUK baby powder.
In Singapore, the Health and Sciences Authority (HSA) said the company representing NUK baby products said it does not import the baby powder into the country. No other company said it is bringing in the powder.
Under HSA's cosmetic notification database, dealers are required to notify it before importing any cosmetic product for sale here.
